Bogura student coordinator gets death threat

Ahsan Habib Sayem, 24, an assistant coordinator of the Bogura District Anti-Discrimination Movement, reported receiving a death threat today.

Sayem told “Some unidentified young men, aged between 24 and 25, have been following me since December 16. Last night, someone wrote on the wall of our house in Naodapara, Bogura Sadar. The message read: Be prepared for death, coordinator.”

He expressed concerns about his family’s safety, saying, “Now, my whole family is worried about our security. I have informed the central leaders of the anti-discrimination movement about this incident.”

Sayem also mentioned that police had visited their house several times today to investigate the matter.

When asked who might be behind the threat, Sayem said, “Collaborators of the last AL government are still free to issue such threats.”

Niyati Sarkar Nitu, another coordinator who participated in the July-August movement and a leader of the Bogura Samajtantrik Chhatra Front, condemned the threat.

“We strongly demand that those responsible for the threats written on the wall be immediately identified and brought to justice,” she said.

When contacted, Sumon Ranjan Sarkar, additional superintendent of police, confirmed receiving a general diary regarding the incident.

“Several teams of police are working to identify those involved in issuing the threat,” he said.

“We have also urged the victim and his family to provide any clues they might have about the threat,” he added.
