Three armed men, who attempted robbery at the Jinjira branch of Rupali Bank in Dhaka’s Keraniganj, surrendered three hours after they entered the bank.
They were whisked away on a microbus escorted by members of police and Rab, a Rab official told reporters on the spot.
The officers and customers, who were held hostage inside the bank, are safe now, he said.
“Three robbers, aged between 20 and 30, surrendered their three firearms and boarded our vehicles. They responded the call of surrender by members of army, Rab and police,” the Rab official said.
No casualties were reported, and bank authorities will assess the damage, he added.
Earlier, an armed gang entered and attempted to rob Rupali Bank around 2:00pm and later held bank officials and customers hostages inside the bank.
Three robbers had entered the bank, while the others remained outside, said the Rab official.
